INTESOL student becomes lecturer at University of Botswana

Faith Anna Brown (MCoT) is an INTESOL student who has certainly put her TESOL qualification to good use. Gaining her INTESOL Certificate in TESOL has enabled Faith to broaden her horizons and to add a valuable skill to her already impressive array of talents.

Since leaving Nigeria at the end of 2006, Faith has been teaching at the University of Botswana. She is currently a lecturer in the Communication and Study Skills Unit, Centre for Academic Development. She teaches undergraduate courses in Advanced Writing, Business Communication, and English for Academic and Professional Communication and is also the Coordinator of CSSU Writing Clinic & Student Support Services.

Faith taught English at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Nigeria for almost two decades. She left ATBU as a senior lecturer, and acting Director of the university's General Studies Directorate and is the founder and editor-in-chief of The Pearl magazine, to which she makes regular contributions.

Faith writes short stories and poems. Her poems 'A Dance in the Air', 'Gourmet's Touch' and 'A Song of Reminiscence' are online at Poetry Canada. Also, her poem titled 'Saved' was selected in an international poetry competition and published in Transcending Moments, an anthology of the Poetry Institute of Africa, South Africa in 2006. Her collection of poems 'Endless Seasons' is in press.
She has also received an award as Woman of the 21st Century for her contributions to English for Academic Purposes, from the American Biographical Institute.

Faith is currently investigating the reading strategies of ESL university students for her doctoral research.
