Jeremy Harmer at TESOL Greece ConventionINTESOL Greece meets Jeremy at 26th Convention in Athens

INTESOL was well represented at the 26th TESOL Greece Convention held at the Hellenic-American Union in Athens. INTESOL Greece Course Director, Mihaela Dascalu gave a poster presentation on 'Change and Self-development', with the motto: Change is inevitable, growth is optional. This went down very well, especially with author, Jeremy Harmer who came straight to Mihaela's presentation because the topic intrigued him. Mihaela gave an interactive presentation to Jeremy, which ended up as a discussion about the principles behind training and what and why we should change in teacher training. When Mihaela had finished, Jeremy had a futher conversation with her concerning the fact that this particular area had always been at the core of his preoccupations as a teacher trainer. Jeremy felt that Mihaela's proposals were eminently feasible and he liked the new role created by her for teacher educators, that of 'facilitator of growth'. Due to Jeremy Harmer spending so much time in front of Mihaela's poster, she received a lot of interest from other participants at the convention. Eventually she had to repeat the presentation, this time in front of a larger audience. INTESOL Greece Centre Director, Victor Habib, gave a short presentation to Jeremy on INTESOL Greece, giving details of the organisation and outlining plans for the future. Jeremy was suitably impressed and during the course of the conference he and Mihaela had a number of conversations about several matters including training. Email addresses were exchanged and Jeremy promised to keep in touch to see with interest how the implementation of Mihaela's proposals would work out in practice. It was a memorable gathering from every aspect: superb organization of the events, interesting presentations, and participants from other parts of the world (Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, Japan, UK, USA, Croatia, Taiwan, Turkey and Italy). INTESOL made its presence known not not only by participating in the event and giving a commercial presentation, but also by offering a sample of the quality that INTESOL training provides. The convention closed with a party on the roof garden allowing an amazing view of the Acropolis at night.
